Teaching with Technology
View a Teaching with Technology module
Project Summary: This project has been commissioned by the Partnership for Global Learning and by Foreign Languages at the University of Florida. The task is to design and develop four learning modules that will help teaching assistants understand the importance and value of technology in the classroom. The four modules cover the following topics: Technology and Task Design, Evaluating Activities, Synchronous Computer-mediated Communication, and Asynchronous Computer-mediated Communication.
Technology and Software: These modules have been developed using PHP for interactivity. The web pages were developed using Adobe Dreamweaver. Graphics were developed using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Fireworks.
Pedagogy and Technology: These modules seek to prepare learners interested in incorporating technology in the classroom. The learning objectives range from basic knowledge skills (concept recognition, definitions, etc) to higher order evaluation skills (analyzing and assessing case studies, etc.) These modules were developed using PHP technology, allowing the user to enter information that can later be viewed in the course of the module and printed for assessment. User participation is encouraged, thereby enhancing the interactivity of the modules.
PHP technology provides the opportunity to create a simulated interaction with the material and was selected as the primary technology to target adult learners. Throughout the module, the user is able to self-assess progress and comprehension by responding to questions and comparing answers to those of experts in the field. Case studies are incorporated throughout and are the primary method of summative assessment. Enrichment materials and vignettes provide an advanced track for learners. After completing each module, the learner is provided with the option to print, email, or save the module answers.
