What is it?
Electronic mail (E-mail) is an electronic communication medium in which correspondence is sent to an electronic mailbox. E-mail permits users to send out information to others much in the same way as traditional mail, but has a virtually instantaneous transit time.
What are the educational uses and benefits?
Communication:
- Can be used to notify students of any upcoming events or changes. Can facilitate communication between groups of students and with the instructor.
Classroom Management
- E-mail can be used to submit assignments via attachment. This ensures that assignments are time-stamped upon submission and instructors can set up folders specifically for student e-mails.
Discussion:
- E-mail discussion groups can encourage students who are normally shy in verbal discussions to provide input.
Feedback:
- Can be used to provide instant feedback on student queries, projects, and assignments.
