What is it? rss icon image

RSS Feeds are a family of web feed formats used to publish regularly updated content. RSS stands for a variety of standards:

  • Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)
  • Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91, RSS 1.0)
  • RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0)
RSS programs are known as feed readers/aggregators which check a list of feeds specified by the user and automatically displays updated content. An advantage of using an RSS feed is that it centralizes all information so the users only have to check one location to find updated inforamtion. This saves much time as the user is no longer required to check each individual site for new content. Many web browsers have integrated support for RSS Feeds.
